Club Projects
Fundraising:
The club will hold both community and fund raising projects during the year and every member is expected to participate. Our most recent initiatives include: the summer musical productions of "Annie" and "The Music Man"; Pancake Breakfast with Santa before the Mineral Water Bowl Parade, and Annual Fruit Sales.
Annual Musical - Growing a Major Kiwanis Initiative
By far, the largest initiative Kiwanis has undertaken is the production of a Broadway musical at the Excelsior Springs Performing Arts Theatre.
Through the support of local businesses and volunteers, the Kiwanis Club has been able to net more than $15,000 to give back to the community. Through continued efforts to grow the event, the Club hopes to double this amount with next year's production.
The Club donated the majority of the proceeds from these musicals to support fine arts for our youth through the Excelsior Springs School District. This year, the Club will work with the District to start an Arts Partners Program, a curriculum based arts program that brings the resources of arts in Kansas City to students in the District.
Service Projects:
Kiwanis service projects have been developed to serve our community and recognize deserving individuals. They currently include: Kiwanis Kafe as part of the Parents as Teachers Tiny Town for Tots; the "I Care" Conference for caregivers of birth to five-year olds; an annual Kids Day parade during Waterfest; the Annual Celebrity Roast where we honor an individual who has provided outstanding service to the community; the Yearly Spiritual Values Award Luncheon, honoring a member of the spiritual community; and others.
Funds raised have helped start an Arts Partners program for the Excelsior Springs School District, and help support groups like SADD, Head Start, Boy Scouts, Boys State, and High School students needing scholarships. The Club is always looking for new ways to raise funds to give back to the community.
Sponsored Youth:
Our Kiwanis Club has the opportunity to sponsor some of the largest youth organizations int he world. Locally, Kiwanis has sponsored the K-Kids Club in both Westview and Lewis elementary schools. Kiwanis also offers a youth service organization for the Middle School - Builder's Club, and for the High School - Key Club. All that is needed to spread the idea of service.
